Privacy
Draft. This hasn't been reviewed by a lawyer yet, and the parts in [brackets] still need filling in. It describes how arcade.fun works today.
The short version
- You can play without an account, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Your microphone and camera are read inside your browser. Sound and video aren't sent to us.
- Every run is recorded in your browser so you can save or share it. A recording only reaches us if you choose to submit it to a leaderboard.
- Some games listen for words. For those, your browser's own speech recognition does the listening, and in Chrome that audio goes to Google to be transcribed.
Who we are
arcade.fun is run by [company name], [address]. Questions and requests: [contact email].
Your microphone
Games measure how loud you are, which note you're humming, and sharp sounds like “pew!”. That happens in your browser, and the sound isn't recorded on or sent to our servers.
Games that listen for words use the speech recognition built into your browser. In Chrome, the audio goes to Google to be turned into text, under Google's privacy policy. Other browsers may use their maker's service, or not offer it.
Call the Lane's “Say anything” mode, when offered, streams your voice to OpenAI while that mode is connected, under OpenAI's privacy policy. It's off until you choose it.
Your camera
Camera games track your hands and face in your browser, using Google's MediaPipe software. The video never leaves your device, and we don't receive or store face or hand measurements.
The first time you open a camera game, your browser downloads the tracking software and models from jsDelivr and Google's servers. As with any download, those services see your IP address.
The camera turns off when you go back to the arcade floor. The CAMERA light in the header shows whenever it's on.
Recordings of your runs
Each run is recorded in your browser: the game, your microphone and the game's sounds. You can save the video or share it. Turn recording off in the setup row at the bottom of the arcade floor.
If you submit a run to a leaderboard (when that's open), we receive:
- the video, which may show your face and contain your voice
- your score and the run's details
- your name or handle
A person reviews the video. Verified runs are shown publicly with their video and your name.
Games you upload
If you send in a game (when uploads are open), we store the file and the details you enter, including your name. After review, they're shown publicly.
What stays in your browser
Your settings (mic levels, sensitivity, game speed, recording, humming range), your best scores and your leaderboard name are kept in your browser's local storage. They aren't sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.
Children
Anyone can play. Submitting runs, uploading games and creating accounts are only for people 13 and older.
If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact [contact email] and we'll delete it.
Keeping and deleting
- Rejected videos are deleted straight away.
- Videos that are never reviewed are deleted after 30 days.
- Verified runs stay up until you ask us to remove them.
To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, write to [contact email].
